A driver’s failure to yield results in crash with police officer

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP — A St. Clair Township police officer and K9 were transported for medical evaluation from the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Calcutta Thursday morning.

Officer Joshua Jackson was transported to East Liverpool City Hospital and K9 Noras was transported to Sunny Ridge Veterinary Services where he was checked and released.

The crash occurred on state Route 170 when the driver of a Dodge Journey failed to yield from a private driveway and pulled in front of the officer who was heading south on state Route 170.

There were no injuries that required transportation to the hospital for the driver of the Dodge Journey.

It is not known if airbag deployment happened in the Ford Explorer unit driven by Jackson, but the airbags in the Dodge Journey deployed.

According to Trooper Nathan Bowlen, Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the Dodge Journey said there were no distractions, that she just didn’t see the officer due to traffic.

Responding to the crash were the St. Clair Police Department, St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Dodge Journey was cited for failure to yield from private driveway.
