Crestview BOE hear reports on curriculum alignment
NEW WATERFORD — Crestview building principals are working hard to align their curriculum so the district can continue improving in target areas.
Building principals provided in depth reports to the board of education this month, presenting exactly how they are moving forward both now and in the future.
The curriculum alignment is a direct response to areas that reflected need for improvement on the Ohio Department of Education annual Report Card.
The district as a whole received a 4 star rating from the ODE on the report card. The highest rating is 5 stars.
High School Principal Caleb Crowl said his goal is for high school students to achieve 10 percent above the state average in every subject tested on state exams.
He told the board that during the last school year students did perform better than the state average on every test but fell short of beating the average of 10 percent higher in the subjects of Biology, US Government and Algebra 1.
As part of the data action plan, staff and administrators from the middle and high school are meeting twice a month to align curriculum and review data, he said.
“These meetings have been a great way to communicate best practices and share cross curricular ideas with other staff members,” he said.
Middle School Principal Timothy Pancake also touched on things being implemented specifically for the middle school students.
Some of these include intense intervention at each grade level, specifically in the subjects of Math and English/Language Arts, and implementing Ohio Department of Education and Workforce approved reading and intervention programs.
At the elementary school, Principal Allison Lemaster noted that students earned 4 stars each in Achievement, Progress and Early Literacy.
With regards to Achievement, she pointed out an upward trend over the last four years, with students not only scoring better over the years in that metric, but also a much larger number of students scoring in the advanced category.
Crestview elementary students also outperformed the state average in Math and English/Language Arts.
For Early Literacy, Lemasters was happy to report that 100 percent of students hit the goal of being on track for the diagnostic tests.
In other matters, the board approved:
