COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana Project Playground recently received a $10,000 grant from the Columbiana Community Foundation. The grant will be used to help fund Phase II of their efforts which includes collecting proposals and designs of the new all inclusive playground structure (covering the cost of fundraising, design renderings, proposal fees, etc.).

“The Columbiana Project Playground (Funland) has long served as a cornerstone of our community, providing a space where children can play, learn, grow, and create cherished memories. This grant from the Columbiana Community Foundation represents a powerful endorsement of our mission and a testament to the foundation’s commitment to investing in the well-being and inclusivity of our youth.” said Michaela Good, President of the Columbiana Project Playground.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Columbiana Community Foundation for their generous support,” said Fritz Nelson, Treasure of the Columbiana Project Playground. “This grant will help us provide a fun, dynamic, safe and fully accessible playground where all children can play, explore, and thrive. We look forward to leveraging these funds to make meaningful changes that will benefit the entire community. The Columbiana Project Playground extends its heartfelt thanks to the Columbiana Community Foundation for their investment in the future of our community’s children. Through this partnership, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive space where all children can play and grow.”

The grant was provided through the Community Foundation’s Community Grant program, which assists and supports those in the Columbiana and Crestview Local School districts, as well as non-profits that offer services in the area. Their services include fundraising, grant management, scholarships, and community outreach.

The original Funland was built by volunteers and community members in 1995 and has since served as the foundation for many years of family memories and traditions. The wear and tear of generations of gatherings and playtime has left the current state of the playground in need of repair and upgrades consistent with modern necessities and inclusivity. Like the original project, the new committee was established to assemble volunteers and increase community engagement to once again mobilize construction efforts for a more modern and inclusive design that future generations can families to enjoy.
