Road closure

Old State Route 154 will be closed between state Route 154 West to Riffle Road by the Rogers Sale Auction site in Elkrun Township beginning Sept. 26 through Nov. 18 for a bridge replacement. The road will be open to local residents only to the work site. Shook Company LLC of Canfield is completing the $543,210 project with funding from Ohio Public Works and the Columbiana County Engineer’s Office.

‘The Bear Hike’

Stage Left will host “The Bear Hike” nature walk at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants will meet at the pavilion at Scenic Vista Park on Wayne Bridge Road. The walk will be led by Eileen Dray-Bardon, an Ohio certified volunteer naturalist and member of the County Park District Board of Commissioners, and Lisbon Mayor Peter Wilson, an expert in local birds and bird calls and past program coordinator for the county park district. Participants will be informed on the characteristics and habits of ursus americanus (the black bear) and will have the opportunity to touch an actual black bear pelt and bear skulls. Other animals mentioned in the book will be discussed as well as many of the plants featured in this work. The walk will cover approximately 1 mile of moderately rugged terrain. Rummage sale

First Christian Church, 225 E. Washington St., Lisbon, will have a rummage sale Oct. 5-7. Times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 5 and 6 and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 7. Oct. 6 and 7 will also be $2 bag days. Donations can be dropped off at the church from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3 and 4.

Puzzle exchange

Salem Public Library will hold a Jigsaw Puzzle Exchange Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Quaker Room. To participate bring puzzles (only ones in good condition with all pieces) to the library during regular library hours Sept. 12 through Oct. 5. Puzzles are to be dropped off at the Adult Circulation desk to receive tickets to bring to the library on the day of the exchange. Participation in the exchange is free of cost and open to the public. For information call the library at 330-332-0042.

Halloween Dinner Dance

The MAPS Air Museum Halloween Dinner Dance is scheduled for Oct. 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. Two options are available for attending — Option One is for those who want a sit-down dinner with music and dancing afterward; Option Two is for those who only want to attend the dance. Dance-only attendees may pay at the door, but it is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations are needed for those who wish Option One. Cost is $21.72 per person. Food will be provided by Mr. Mike’s Catering and includes a pulled pork or chicken salad sandwich, mac & cheese, cole slaw and bottle of water. Registration deadline for this option is 1 p.m. Oct. 27. To register, go to www.mapsairmuseum.org or www.laflavour.com. Phone registration is also available by calling 330-896-6332 ext. 110 for ticket options. No reservations are needed for Option Two.

Doors open for dinner at 5:30 p.m. To attend only the dance, arrive at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door. Reservations for Option One and attendance for Option Two are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Live music will be provided by LaFlavour, with the theme of “Five Decades of Hits.” The event will end at 9 p.m. A costume contest will be judged during the break.

MAPS Air Museum is an internationally known museum of aviation and serves as a center of aviation history for Northeast Ohio. The museum features educational displays of its collection of acquired artifacts, interactive exhibits and historical archives in its own library.
