United to hold open house, building project update
HANOVERTON — The United Local school board will host an architect update on the district’s building project during an open house Aug. 26
Schools Superintendent Lance Hostetler announced at the board meeting Wednesday afternoon the open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. with the update provided by SPH Architects at 5 p.m.
The board last month approved a resolution accepting the program of requirements and schematic design document phase with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. The action was required for the district to move into the next phase of the building project, which includes a three-story building plan addressing concerns about keeping the buses and the parent drop-off lines separate enough to be functional. It also preserves the existing auditorium and gym, provides plenty of energy-efficient northern lighting and facilitates career-based clusters of classrooms.
The project is being funded by private bonds secured using projected tax collections from the Nexus pipeline in addition to the OFCC money.
In other business, the board approved an agreement with ISC Audio Systems to replace the baseball field for $10,062.50 and softball field for $8,750.
The board also approved participation in and authorization to the Southwestern Ohio Educational Purchasing Council and OME-RESA to advertise and receive bids for two school buses. Participation in the program is continued from the 2021-2022 bus bid process after the district did not receive the two buses ordered last year with grant money.
Also at the meeting, the board hired Aimee Marshall as first-grade teacher, accepted the resignation of Tina Sanlo as a three-hour cafeteria worker and granted supplemental coaching contracts to Cory Leek for varsity girls basketball and Kiel Jones for assistant junior high football.
