Calcutta Couple Celebrates Golden Anniversary

After first meeting one another at the dances at Lake Marwin in 1968, John Stephens and Cassy Slagle were united in marriage at Boyce Methodist Church in East Liverpool on January 20, 1972 as the Reverend Paul George officiated the ceremony. Also in attendance was best man Dave Hager and maid of honor Pam Slagle.

Cassy is the daughter of the late Willis Slagle and Harriet Hager Slagle. John is the son of the late Williard Stephens and Esther Stephens Murray. They have lived in the Calcutta area since then and have one son John Jr.

Cassy worked many years in retail at Hills Department Store, Ames, and then retired from Walmart. John worked at Ferro Corporation and Crucible Steel, and then retired from the CCBDD of Columbiana County with 33 years of service.

They both enjoy staying busy in and around the house, and also working in the yard. Cassy also is the Treasurer of her TOPS Club. John likes working on wood projects and crafts. They also like going to car shows and taking evening rides around the countryside in their golf cart. They still attend Boyce Church where they are Communion Stewards.
