‘Twas the Night Before 5K’ set for tonight in Columbiana
COLUMBIANA — Siembida & Boggs Philanthropic Foundation will hold its 9th annual “Twas the Night Before 5K” at 6 p.m. tonight at Firestone Park in Columbiana. Registration will begin at 4 p.m.
Siembida & Boggs Philanthropic Foundation Co-Owner Crystal Boggs said the event donates back to the community every year. The event has donated toys to the local Way Station, contributed to Wreaths Across America and is actively looking for other veteran inspired causes.
The event has sold out every year with registration capped at 500 runners.
“It’s a unique event in that there’s not that many places you can go and see a light show anymore let alone run a 5K through one,” Boggs commented.
Participants will walk, jog and run through the Joy of Christmas light display. The Joy of Christmas light show features over 1,000,000 lights.
Each year the event takes on a theme. The last several years organizers have been assigning a different one of Santa’s famous reindeer. Boggs describes the theme as an event within an event.
Boggs hopes to have a special event next year commemorating the ten-year anniversary.
The race is not a competitive 5K. According to Boggs people have run the event with pets, in crutches and with strollers.
This years sponsors include Birdfish, T-Mobile and Second Sole Racing. Hogan’s Bakery has donated cookies to be enjoyed with soup by runners during the awards event being held at Birdfish afterwards. Twenty or more baskets have been donated to be raffled off during the after party as well.
