Leetonia road work to begin

LEETONIA–At council Wednesday Village Administrator Gary E. Phillips requested residents and commuters limit travel on both Chestnut and East High Street Thursday.

Crews will be digging across the roadway of Chestnut Street while other crews will be grinding parts of East High Street to re-pave.

Chestnut Street will be closed sporadically throughout the day. Mayor Kevin Siembida is advising residents living in the area of Chestnut Street may experience water shut offs periodically Thursday.

“If people don’t want to have a delay in their travel I would recommend during that construction and tying in the lines that they use Walnut Street or an alternate route,” Phillips said.

Accommodations will be made for emergency vehicles.

In other matters, Public Works Superintendent Ed Allen advised council the village has nearly completed leaf pickup. Allen predicts street crews should complete leaf pickup by the end of the week.

Allen recognized street department employees for working through winter weather and keeping on task.

“We’ve been spread really thin with the guys trying to get things done but they have done a heck of a job out there,” Allen remarked.

In other news, council members discussed annual Christmas bonuses for employees during council Wednesday. Council members Neal Bayless and J. R. Ferry suggested granting $100 bonuses. Money for the bonuses would be taken from the general fund.

Siembida thanked council members, community volunteers, and residents for contributing to the success of Light Up Night.

“It was another success getting the community out, trying to get things back to normal,” Siembida said.
