Christmas party canceled

The Historical Society of Columbiana and Fairfield Township annual Christmas party scheduled for Dec. 14 has been canceled

Salem drive thru banquet

Salem city employees will sponsor the Drive Thru Banquet in Salem Monday from 5 p.m. until the food is gone (no later than 7 p.m.) at the Salem Memorial Building. One meal per individuals in the vehicle. The menu will include sweet Italian sausage sandwiches with green peppers and onions, cheesy potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and cookies. Line up is behind the Memorial Building, no parking in the library lot and do not block East Pershing. For more information or wanting to sponsor a Banquet call Patty Colian at 330-831-2169.

ELks Memorial Service

The Salem Elks Lodge No.305 will hold its annual Memorial Service for deceased members at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Elks Lodge, 824 E. State St. Exalted Ruler Wayne Gorby will preside over the ceremony, which includes a Memorial Address to be given by Rev. Amy Raymond of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Salem and solos by Sue Deutschlander. The members who will be eulogized are Richard M. Coppock, Michael H. Lutsch, Joseph G. Wojtecki, Frederick J. Windon, G. Donald Stapelton Jr., Hannah Schnorrenberg, John W. George, Thomas R. Danklef, Lee G. Wisler, Russell C. Loudon, Francis R. Goetz, John R. Lundquist, Robert L. Capel, Timothy R. Bowser, Frederick L. Minamyer, James A. Garrod, Denise C. Green, William T. Bailey, Jr., Arlan E. Crawford, Fred G. Fenske, Floyd E. McCartney, Walter H. Ulrich, Frederick D. Baker, Charles J. Reda and Bruno L. Stanga. Chairman of the event is Kimberly Chapman, PER assisted by Daniel P. Madden, Tom Covert, PER and Ken Dixon, PER. This service is open to the public and all relatives and friends of the departed members are cordially invited to attend. Refreshments will be served following the Memorial Service in the Lodge Room.

SRMC Gift Shop

The Look Nook Gift Shop at Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is offering special discounts on holiday gift items during its “12 Days of Christmas” shopping event. Weekdays Dec. 3 through 20, shoppers are invited to visit the Look Nook to see what exclusive gift item is featured. Each featured item of the day will be on sale for that day only. Proceeds from purchases made at the Look Nook will go to enhancing patient care at SRMC. Located on SRMC’s ground floor concourse, the Look Nook is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, contact the gift shop at 330-332-7812.

Underground Railroad

Seats are still available on the Salem Historical Society Underground Railroad tours on Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. Cost is $15 a person. All riders are requested to wear a mask. Previous participants have found the tour very informative and were enlightened as to the plight of the escaping slaves as they sought freedom while traveling through Salem. Walk ups, if space available, are welcome before departure time at the Dale Shaffer Library 239 S. Lundy Ave. The trolley is handicapped accessible. Oasis food distribution

The Oasis Food Ministry will be holding a food distribution from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday and again Dec. 9 at First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St., Columbiana. Note the change in distribution date schedule to accommodate the Christmas holiday. Distributions will be drive-thru only, vehicles in line and served according to arrival time and with trunks empty to receive groceries. Recipients must have a photo ID and live in Ohio. Maximum of two households per car. Each household can receive food one time per month.
