Crawford Scholarship requirements

Staff Report

SALEM — The Salem Community Foundation recently released the eligibility requirements for the Daniel K. Crawford Memorial Scholarship for Leetonia High School graduating seniors.

Salem resident Floyd Crawford donated $100,000 to establish the scholarship fund through the foundation to commemorate the centennial of his father’s birth in 1921. His father graduated from Leetonia High School in 1940 and had a fondness for his hometown. The Crawford Memorial Scholarship will memorialize his father’s memory and is a direct way to help Leetonia students.

Specifics of the application state applicants must be in the top 10 of their Leetonia High School graduating class and plan on attending an accredited college or university.

The Daniel K. Crawford Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each spring to the applicant demonstrating the greatest financial need. No money or cash will be paid directly to the student or family member. A scholarship award check will be jointly issued to the student and their intended college or university and must be used for tuition.

The amount of the scholarship award is dependent on the annual earnings of the Daniel K. Crawford Memorial Fund.

The scholarship application will available in the Leetonia High School Guidance Counselor office. The first scholarship will be awarded in May 2022.
