ADAPT of Columbiana County hosting free community event
LISBON – ADAPT of Columbiana County in collaboration with Family Recovery Center’s Education Department is kicking-off the national Red Ribbon Week campaign on Saturday with a free community event themed, “No Prob-Llama, I’m Drug Free” on the green in downtown Lisbon from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The National Red Ribbon Campaign began after drug traffickers in Mexico tortured and brutally murdered Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in March 1985. Red Ribbon Week is officially celebrated nationally from October 23-31.
The Red Ribbon Campaign is dedicated to helping preserve Special Agent Camarena’s memory and further the cause for which he gave his life – the fight against the violence of drug crime and the misery of addiction. By gathering together in special events and wearing red ribbons during the last week in October, Americans from all walks of life demonstrate their opposition to drugs.
ADAPT of Columbiana County’s kickoff event will encourage youth and adults to make healthy choices while pledging to be drug-free. The event will feature free activities for kids including bounce houses sponsored by UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and a prize wheel that gives away prizes to children to promote drug-free living including pop-it bracelets, buttons, balloons and candy. Tri-State Young Marines will also be in attendance with “Drunk Goggles” for alcohol abuse awareness.
Approximately 80 million people participate in Red Ribbon events every year and people from all over Columbiana County are invited to attend the event in Lisbon. Free refreshments will be served and a Red Ribbon Week Proclamation from the county commissioners will be shared.
In addition to the kick-off event, ADAPT of Columbiana County is hosting a school and community-wide spirit week to bring awareness to living a life free of drugs and everyone in the county is invited to participate and share photos on ADAPT of Columbiana County’s Facebook page.
