SFC Tony J. Giannone
HHT, 1-89 CAV, Mortar Platoon Sergeant
SFC Giannone has served as the 1-89 CAV Mortar Platoon Sergeant since June of 2018. Giannone has held every enlisted leadership position in the Mortar MOS, ranging from Ammunition Bearer to Platoon Sergeant.
SFC Giannone is a native of Summitville, Ohio, and enlisted in the Army in January of 2012. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He spent three years in 2BCT, 2-325 Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82ndAirborne Division culminating as a Squad Leader. Giannone then re-enlisted for the 101stAirborne Division where he spent three years with 2BCT, 1-26 Infantry Regiment culminating as a Mortar Platoon Sergeant. Currently, SFC Giannone serves in 2BCT, 1-89 Calvary Regiment, 10thMountain Division where he serves as the HHT Mortar Platoon Sergeant. Giannone’s deployments include 2016-2017 OIR in support of the Mosul Offensive with 1-26 IN, 2019-2020 as part of KFOR 25 in Kosovo with 1-89 CAV, and one month in the Republic of Georgia to train the GIB 32.
Giannone’s military education includes BLC, ALC, SLC and DLC IV. He is a graduate of Airborne School, Air Assault School, Infantry Mortar Leaders Course, the SHARP Foundation Course, and the Equal Opportunity Leaders Course. Giannone holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from Norwich University.
SFC Giannone’s awards and decorations include the ARCOM with Combat device, ARCOM (5thaward), AAM (7thAward), Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal (3rdAward), Global War on Terrorism, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Armed Forces Expedition Medal, NATO medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He has earned the Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist badge, Air Assault badge, and the Expert Marksman Qualification Badge.
SFC Giannone is married to his wife Christine of nine years with whom he has two children and one due in November.
Tony is the son of Stefan and Debbie Giannone of Summitville. Grandparents are Jim and Darlene Dangelo and Ursula Gossman of Salineville.
