Columbiana County construction

The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Columbiana County in the coming weeks. All outlined work is weather permitting.

Beginning the week of July 5, the following ramps will close for 45 days at the U.S. 30/state Route 7 interchange for a bridge repair project in East Liverpool. This project includes a future closure of the U.S. Route 30 eastbound ramp to state Route 7 south after completing the work on the U.S. Route 30 west/state Route 7 south ramps. The completion date for the entire project is Oct. 31.

U.S. 30 west to SR 7 south: The detour for this ramp is U.S. 30 west to the exit for downtown East Liverpool, West 3rd Street to Jackson Street, Jackson Street to West 5th Street, West 5th Street to Jefferson St., Jefferson Street to SR 7.

SR 7 north to U.S. 30 west: The detour for this ramp is SR 7 north to Jefferson Street, Jefferson Street to West 5th Street, West 5th Street to Jackson Street to return to U.S. 30 west.

Mahoning County construction

The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Mahoning County in the coming weeks. All outlined work is weather permitting.

Beginning July 5, state Route 7 between the Columbiana County line and state Route 164 will have various lane restrictions for resurfacing. Estimated completion is mid-November 2021.

Beginning July 5, state Route 164 between West Pine Lake Road and state Route 165 will be closed through late July for bridge replacements. The detour will be state Route 165 to state Route 46.

United Local Wall of Fame

The United Local Wall of Fame has finalized the selection of the 2021 class of inductees. Six individuals will join the ranks of those alumni who have been honored for outstanding accomplishments. The 2021 induction class will include:

Victoria Bates – Class of 2009 (Athletic Accomplishment), Neil Cope – Class of 1972 (Academic/Career/Accomplishment), Alexander Koch – Class of 2004 (Academic/Career Accomplishment), Steve Mercer – Class of 1991 (Athletic Accomplishment), Timothy Owen – Class of 1999 (Outstanding Service to United Local Schools) and John Zehentbauer – Class of 1983 (Academic/Career Accomplishment).

Also to be recognized this year is the 1958-1959 Varsity Boys Basketball Team which will receive the Golden Eagle Award recognizing its amazing season in the year of United’s first graduation class.

All honorees will be introduced during the pregame at the home varsity football game at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10. An induction ceremony and dinner will be held at the high school at 6 p.m. Sept. 11. Friends and family may join in celebrating this year’s inductees by making a dinner reservation no later than Aug. 31. The cost is $20. For children age 10 and under, the cost is $10. HEAP Summer Crisis Program

Community Action Agency’s HEAP Summer Crisis Program (SCP) begins July 1 and runs through Sept. 30. Appointments for the HEAP Summer Crisis Program will begin July 7 and may be made by calling the automated phone service at 330-892-8880 on June 28. Based on available staff, a limited number of same-day applicants will be served daily, on a first-call, first-served basis, from 8 to 9 a.m. These appointments are replacing walk-in appointments. Fridays will be same-day appointments only from 8 to 11:15am for the duration of the program. Same day appointments will also be available from 8 to 11:15 a.m. July 1, 2 and 6. Center Twp. trustees

Center Township trustees have moved their regular meeting from July 14 to 7 p.m. July 13 at the township hall. The following meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 28 at the township hall.

EP Masonic Lodge open house

East Palestine Masonic Lodge #417 will hold an open house from noon to 3 p.m. for the public to see the renovations that have been done at the new Masonic Temple (the old Grace Lutheran Church). 87 W. Grant St. All are welcome.

EP Amateur Radio Club

The East Palestine Amateur Radio Club will be operating for the ARRL Field Day event starting at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at state Route 14 (where the old Road House was located in East Palestine). The public is invited to attend and get information about amateur radio.
