Concerts in the Park return to Columbiana

Morning Journal/Danielle Garner Greg Gustafson has been the chairman of Concerts for six years. Gustafon looks forward to getting local residents back in Firestone Park for fellowship and enjoyment.

COLUMBIANA–Chairman of Concerts, Greg Gustafson anticipates the return of Concerts in the Park at Firestone this year.

The concert series is a free event open to the public. Concerts take place under the gazebo on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m.

Concerts in the Park consist of a wide variety of talent.

Talent ranges from The Q, which was featured previously at the Columbiana Chalk Festival; the internationally established House Band; and the Boardman Band by the name of 2K21 directed by Tom Ruggieri.

Gustafson is trying to line up Sarah Warner and Friends and Steve Fazzini.

If weather is inclement or rainy concerts will be canceled. Gustafson leaves the decision to the bands. However he reminds them attendees usually do not enjoy sitting in rain and other harsh elements.

Sponsor contributions greatly contribute to providing a complimentary family friendly event.

“The biggest is Columbiana Community Foundation –they always are very, very generous they are our main sponsor and co-sponsor with them is the Chamber of Commerce,” Gustafson said.

Gustafson enjoys bringing people into the park and admires recent renovations. “We get anywhere from 50 to 250 people, it just depends on the group,” Gustafson said. “It’s amazing, the Restoration and Beautification Committee and Chamber of Commerce came together and made the park a beautiful location.”

Local businesses also contribute to the annual concert series.

Gustafson welcomes people to bring lawn chairs, coolers and have picnics. He enjoys seeing families take advantage of the park and gets positive feedback about concerts.

“Sit under a tree and listen to some good music,” Gustafson said.

The current schedule is as follows:

July

18 – The Q

25–The House Band

August

8 — Route 45 Band

15 — Boardman Band 2K21

Additional concerts will be held pending talent selection on Aug. 22 and 29.
