Woman attacked by her dog, seriously injured
SALEM — Police and the city health district are still investigating a dog bite incident on Jennings Avenue which left a woman seriously injured Friday night.
Salem Police Chief J.T. Panezott said he was meeting with city health department environmental director Alan Masters Monday afternoon to discuss some of the details.
“We’re just trying to get all the information, all the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.
Police responded Friday to the 200 block of Jennings Avenue for a report of someone yelling for help and found the woman who said she was attacked by one of her dogs and needed help. Fire department first responders and EMT ambulance arrived on scene and she was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.
The Columbiana County dog warden arrived on scene and the dog was euthanized there by a local veterinarian.
Panezott said there were other dogs in the house and they were temporarily removed.
The name of the victim wasn’t released.
“I don’t have an update on her condition. She sustained very serious injuries,” he said, adding, “We wish her the best in her recovery.”
