Woman indicted, allegedly injured Youngstown cops

YOUNGSTOWN — A Homeworth woman was indicted on kidnapping, failure to comply with the order of a police officer, three counts of assault, obstructing official business and fentanyl-related-compound possession in an incident in which two Youngstown police officers were injured.

Hannah Trussell, 20, 12th Street, was charged on Oct. 18 after officers stopped a car at Indianola Avenue and Cooper Street on Youngstown’s South Side. A male driver exited the vehicle and spoke with officers, who discovered Trussell had a warrant for her arrest.

Two officers walked up to the car, notified her of the warrant and asked her to get out of the car. She refused, then moved her right leg, revealing a piece of paper commonly used to hold drugs, according to a police report.

One officer tried to grab her wrist from the passenger side, but she rolled into the driver’s seat. The officer was partially in the car, trying to prevent Trussell from putting the car in drive as another officer went to the driver’s side and tried to open the door, the report states.

Trussell got the car in drive and accelerated, dragging the officer on the driver’s side a few feet until he let go and rolled onto Cooper Street. The other officer remained in the car as it sped away, running over a third officer’s foot, the report states.

Trussell then struck a fire hydrant and continued on Cooper Street, swerving out of control through yards. The officer in the car punched Trussell in the jaw in an attempt to make her stop, causing her to fall sideways, the report states. The vehicle hit a flag pole in front of 2654 Cooper, where it came to rest. Another officer pulled Trussell out of the vehicle and she was arrested.

Two officers were taken to the hospital — one for a foot injury and another for injuries to his shoulder, back, neck and wrist during the multiple times Trussell crashed, the report states.

Police found a bindle of fentanyl in the vehicle and a cellphone box that contained drug paraphernalia, including needles, police said.
