Two more deaths; auditor reacts to rising COVID numbers

LISBON — The county auditor announced Wednesday it would be closing again to the public due to increasing number of residents testing positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the county health department reported Wednesday two more people died from the virus — a 43-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman. Neither resided in a long-term health care facility.

The death of the 43-year-old man represents the youngest person in the county to die from the virus since an inmate the same age at the federal prison in Elkton succumbed to the virus in April. The youngest female to die from Covid was a 50-year-old woman, also in April.

The total number of residents who have tested positive to date is 3,580, an increase of 455 since Friday. Approximately 97 people have died from the virus, 59 of whom resided in long-term health care facilities and nine were prison inmates.

While the county is reporting 97 deaths, the Ohio Department of Health is currently listing the total as 98 — 90 of whom are listed as confirmed and eight as probable.

Following is the list of deaths by age group:

90-plus — 11

80-89 — 32

70-79 — 25

60-69 — 19

50-59 — 9

40-49 — 2

30-39 — 0

20-29 — 0

19 and under — 0

County Auditor Nancy Milliken said she is closing her office again to the public so her staff CAN continue to work while protecting them from COVID as much as possible.

“The Columbiana County Auditor’s Office is firmly committed to being servants to the highest possible standard, without putting the health and well being of our staff or the public at risk,” she said in a news release.

The county courthouse closed to the public for about two months in the spring because of the virus, and the auditor’s office was among the first to do so.

Dog licenses are scheduled to go on sale Dec. 1, and Milliken said people can mail their payment, noting their application included an envelope with a return address. For others the address is Columbiana County Auditor, 105 S. Market St., Lisbon, OH, 44432.

Another option is to go online at www.doglicenses.us/oh/Columbiana. There is also a drop box in the main courthouse hallway.

Finally, dog owners can go to one of the following locations to purchase their license: Discount Drug Mart in Lisbon and Hanoverton Hardware.

As for deeds and transfer documents, there will be an inbox and outbox beside the auditor’s door. When deeds are finished being processed they will be left in the out box. Those dropping off a deed are advised to call ahead to alert the staff.

The auditor’s office number is 330-424-9515.
