East Liverpool Hospital nurses on strike

The sounds of “Come Together” by the Beatles and the supportive horns of passing motorists rang through the air by East Liverpool City Hospital Saturday morning, as nurses’ union members were in the initial hours of their promised three-day strike. With sign-toting marchers at both the main entrance and the emergency room, picketers did not impede the facility’s operations. A tent erected across the street to serve as a drive-thru COVID testing machine still had patients as usual, as they shared their parking lot with media and security staffing the strike. Talks between the union and hospital reached an impasse with no further talks scheduled. The nurses currently are without an agreement. (Photos by Stephanie Ujhelyi)
