The Salem Parks Department and “Eyes for Olivia” invite all young ghosts and goblins (14 and under) to the fifth annual Trail of Treats from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Waterworth Memorial Park. This year’s event will be held as a drive-thru in order to comply with COVID 19 guidelines. The trail will begin at the entrance of the service road off Sunset Boulevard (just past the Rotary Softball field on the left side of the parking lot) and runs along the duck pond. The vehicles will exit on to the East School Street parking lot. All children will receive treats from local businesses, organizations, and churches. Each vehicle that enters the trail will receive a bag with promotional items from all participating businesses. The Salem Public Library is sponsoring a virtual Halloween costume contest. The categories for the contest are: Family/Group, Scariest, Funniest, and Cutest/Prettiest. All Entries should include your child’s name, age, which category they intend to compete in, and a valid phone number. Costume contest entries must be emailed to: salemcostumecontest@gmail.com by 8 p.m. Sunday. The winners of these categories will receive prizes. All winners will be contacted and given a time to pick up their prizes. This year the costume contest prizes were donated by Nate Mullen with Governor Insurance Agency. Donations will be accepted for The Brightside Project; a collection bin will be located at the start of the Trail. Each family is asked to bring a donation item if they are able to do so (this is not required to attend). Items the Brightside Project is currently in need of are child-friendly, non-perishable food items. Some examples are fruit snacks, fruit cups, applesauce cups, individual cereals, individual chips/cookies/snack items, crackers, macaroni & cheese, ramen noodles, canned raviolis, juice boxes and pop tarts. Also, personal care items: shampoo, deodorant, bars of soap or body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hairbrushes, combs and feminine care products. They are also accepting donations of new and gently used stuffed animals and children’s books.
