Jailer charged with smuggling
LISBON — A county jail corrections officer has been arrested and charged after he was reportedly caught bringing narcotics into the facility.
An Oct. 22 preliminary hearing was set in county Municipal Court for Jordan Z. Thurmond, 29, Alliance, charged with illegal conveyance of prohibited items onto the detention facility grounds. Thurmond appeared by video for arraignments on Friday morning. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety and he was released on Friday after posting it.
According to court documents, Detective Sgt. Jeff Haugh discovered a package in the backpack of Thurmond, which he had brought with him into the secure area of the jail. The package contained two pills marked as containing amphetamines and two pills marked as oxycodone, along with a bottle of marijuana and a lighter.
Additionally, there reportedly was smoking tobacco in the package.
Thurmond also allegedly was found to have a sum of cash he was carrying with him.
The drugs were discovered on Thursday morning when investigators were looking into concerns that narcotics were being brought into the jail by someone for the use of the inmates.
