Salem man robbed, assaulted after using ATM

SALEM — Police are investigating a robbery and assault that took place late Thursday in the area of North Lundy Avenue and Sugartree Alley.

Salem Police Detective Dave Talbert said the victim, a 41-year-old man, used the ATM at KeyBank at Second and Broadway and was walking home, traveling east through the alley, when he was assaulted by two males who also removed his wallet from his pocket and fled.

The wallet contained an undisclosed amount of money.

Police were contacted about the robbery at 11:19 p.m. Thursday and searched the area but didn’t locate anyone. K-9 Simon was also at the scene for the search.

Talbert said the victim went home and didn’t call police at first, so the time of the incident was estimated at 10 p.m.

Anyone who saw anything at that time or has information about the incident should call the police department at 330-337-7811.
