Man charged following chase
SALEM– A Berlin Center man is facing multiple charges after fleeing police early Thursday morning.
Cody A. Lawson, 24, 5373 S. Pricetown Road, was charged with failure to comply, resisting arrest, burglary, obstruction of official business, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, stop sign violation and turn signal violation after leading police in a vehicular pursuit then a foot chase on the north side of town.
A patrolling officer observed Lawson driving in the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Sixth Street at 12:47 a.m. and knew him to have a suspended license. Lawson allegedly driving at a high rate of speed when the officer began following him, then did not comply when the officer attempted a traffic stop on Rea Drive near Morgan Court.
Lawson eventually fled the vehicle on foot in the 800 block of East Sixth Street, during which he entered an occupied home before continuing eastbound. Officers caught him and placed him on the ground. EMT responded after he claimed to be injured.
A male passenger was detained for officer safety and while being moved to a cruiser began combative and kicked an officer. The passenger was also placed on the ground and was later transported to the Salem hospital for evaluation. Charges against the passenger are pending.
