Devils and Eagles will honor Melina Edenfield
The Lisbon and United volleyball teams are coming together on Sept. 22 to spike out childhood cancer and Volley for Melina. Melina Edenfield, the daughter of Lisbon DAHS principal Keith Edenfield, was diagnosed with a brain tumor on May 22, 2020 and passed away June 24, 2020, after fighting a courageous battle. This game is being played in her honor and all proceeds from this night will go to the Melina Michelle Edenfield Foundation.
VFD plans open house
The Negley Volunteer Fire Department Association will hold an open house at the Negley fire station from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The public will have an opportunity to see the equipment and facilities, meet the firefighters and EMTs and see and participate in live demonstrations. Food and refreshments will be available for the event.
Banquet slated Monday
Salem Giant Eagle will sponsor the Drive-Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. or until the food runs out (no later than 7 p.m.) Monday at the Salem Memorial Building. The menu will include fried chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and cookies. Line up is behind the Memorial Building. For information call 330-831-2169.
Walk-in screening mammograms are now available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Salem Regional Medical Center’s Imaging Center located at Firestone Farms TownCenter in Columbiana. No appointments are required, which means that patients can walk-in for a screening mammogram during these hours with little to no waiting. A prior doctor’s order for the exam is not needed and financial assistance is available for those who qualify. The Imaging Center also provides bone density screenings (DEXA scans), ultrasounds, x-rays and a next generation CT scanner, for high-quality, faster imaging, and up to a 40% reduction in radiation dose. Goshen Township appreciates recyclers
Goshen Township Recycling, in cooperation with the Mahoning County Green Team, will hold a customer appreciation day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the township garage, 12649 Seacrist Road, Salem. There will also be a scrap tire drive from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Electronic Drive from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is open to township residents and those of the immediate surrounding area. There will be free refreshments. Car, light trunk, motorcycle and bicycle tires $1 each for up to 10 and $2 for each over 10; and $2.25 for tires on the rim. Semi truck/skid loader tires are $8 each, $8.50 on rim; racing slicks/off road $25; and farm service $55 each, $60 on rim. Due to variations of some tire sizes and applications, on the spot appraisal and cost adjustment may be necessary CRT monitors and TVs $20 and no console TVs will be accepted. Flu shots available
Mahoning County Public Health will be holding flu shot clinics at various locations throughout the county. Local clinics include 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 6 at Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St.; and 2 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Beaver Township Woodworth Park, 225 Warren Ave. Schedule an appointment at 330-270-2855 ext. 125 prior to clinic date. All clinics are by appointment only. Bring insurance cards, driver’s license, Medicaid and Medicare cards so the cost of the vaccine can be billed; most private insurances are accepted. Mahoning County is a Vaccines for Children Program Provider and will have limited opportunities for children that are uninsured or underinsured to receive the vaccine free of charge. Available flu vaccines include: ages 6 months and up — Quadrivalent (4 flu virus strains); ages 65 years and older –High dose quadrivalent (4 flu virus strains); and ages 18 years and older– Egg free (cell based) quadrivalent (4 flu virus strains).
Church selling apple pies
The Lisbon Methodist Church will hold an apple pie sale, with pre-orders only through Sept. 28. Pickup will be Oct. 9. Cost is $12 for a 9-inch deep dish pie. Proceeds will benefit the meal program. Call 424-5212 to order.
