Annual Pottery Auction to be held on-line
EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool High School Alumni Association (ELHSAA) Annual Pottery Auction will be on-line due to COVID-19. Bid at www.basingerauctions.com from Oct. 17 to Oct. 27. This is the largest fundraiser of the year for this 501(c)(3) group dedicated to providing scholarships to graduating students and promoting lifelong relationships.
“We are trying an on-line auction this year,” said Brian Shockey, Pottery Auction Chairman. “Normally, the auction is under a tent at the Clock Tower, but it was delayed thinking the threat from COVID-19 would be over by September. Due to safety concerns, we felt our only choice was to take the auction on-line.”
Custom items from local potteries are an auction tradition. Fiesta Tableware Company, Newell, W.Va., manufactured and donated 12 individually numbered Fiesta and Hall China items that should be popular with many collectors. Designed in 1999 for the year 2000-only release, the Fiesta Millennium II Vase was produced specifically for this auction and glazed in Butterscotch, the new color for 2020 as the first auction piece under the new company name. Last produced in the 1940’s, the Hall China item this year is an amazing 8 Cup China Drip Coffee Maker in American Rose, a popular period pattern, and will be the last ELHSAA auction piece made under the Hall China name. W.C. Bunting Company, E. Palestine, Ohio, has also produced beautiful Fiesta 2021 Calendar Plates in Meadow (Fiesta color for 2019).
As in past years, consignment items will be included in the auction and can be brought to the ELHSAA Clock Tower from Sept.28 to Oct. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please limit items to local pottery and memorabilia only that are valued at $25 or more and have written descriptions for each item.
Auction preview will be Saturday, Oct.17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clock Tower Museum Room. Please wear mask and social distance. Anyone can bid by registering at www.basingerauctions.com or visit www.elhsaa.com for more information.
The ELHSAA would like to thank Elizabeth (Liz) McIlvain, President & Owner, Fiesta Tableware Company, and Patrick O’Hara, Vice President of Sales, W.C. Bunting Company for their support and donations.
