WB treasurer’s office recognized by state

BELOIT — The West Branch Local Schools treasurer’s office earned recognition for the 2019 fiscal year.

School Board President Courtney Stryffeler acknowledged the Ohio Auditor of State Award for the 2019 fiscal year for excellence in financial reporting presented to the district’s treasurer’s office. She thanked all the staff members of the office for their diligence and attention to detail.

Treasurer Julia Rozsnyai, who joined the district in March, acknowledged the staff members in the treasurer’s office as well.

Stryffeler also said applications are still being accepted for a new financial advisory committee created by Rozsnyai. Letters of interest and an application found on the district website must be submitted to Rozsnyai by Sept. 10. Committee members will be selected and approved by the school board for a two-year term at the regular September board meeting. Anyone interested in serving on the committee may contact Rozsnyai at Julia.Rozsnyai@WBWarriors.org or 330-938-3533 or visit the district website.

In other business, the board approved the January cash reconciliation, financial summary and check listing. Stryffeler noted the items had been reviewed in February under an interim treasurer, after then-treasurer David Drawl resigned early in the month, and the board wanted to ensure they were approved at a meeting.

Additionally the board approved the engagement of services provided by the Ohio Auditor of State’s office for a basic financial statement audit for fiscal year 2020 at a cost of $23,780, which Stryffeler noted it is an annual process, and approved a contract continuation with Forecast5Analytics for fiscal year 2021 at a cost of $9,680.

Also at the meeting, the board approved an athletic training contract with Aultman Alliance Community Hospital. Schools Superintendent Timothy Saxton said the previous trainer in the contract was furloughed in the spring. He said that although there was no charge last year, the amount of time provided then will not be enough this year. He said the district can purchase additional hours as needed for this fall.

The board also approved a board policy, with the second reading waived, requiring protective face coverings during the pandemic for all students; a board policy and guidelines for the random drug testing of students participating in athletic, extracurricular and co-curricular activities effective Aug. 1; a fee schedule of $40 for general kindergarten through 12 grade, $25 optional for Chromebook insurance, $25 for high school activity, $35 for musicals/plays, $25 for high school clubs (covers participation in all clubs) and $20 for middle school clubs (covers participation in all clubs); and donations of $246 from Smith Landscaping for work on the softball field and $105,668.25 anonymously for Chromebooks.

Saxton also reported kindergarten screening has been rescheduled for just before the start of the school year or during the first week. He said the screening had been canceled due to an “unforeseen circumstance” unrelated to the COVID-19 pandemic. He offered no explanation of the circumstance.
