Brothers attain Eagle Scout rank

Christopher and Patrick Wolfgang recently earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. Each earned over 30 Merit Badges. Nationally, only 2% of boys who start out in Scouting achieve this rank. In the Buckeye Council, the percentage is closer to 7%, still a rare accomplishment. The Wolfgangs are members of Troop 2062 and received their Eagle awards at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor that was recently held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Summitville. They are the sons of Philip and Mary Wolfgang of Hanoverton, and grandsons of Bill and Pauline McKarns of Hanoverton and Elsie Wolfgang of Lisbon. Christopher’s project was the construction of three benches placed on individual concrete pads in the parish cemetery. These benches can be easily rotated to overlook the cemetery or meditate on the newly installed Stations of the Cross. Patrick’s project was the designing, building and placing Outdoor Stations of the Cross behind the church at the edge of the cemetery. Working together but separately, these Eagle Scouts “took an unusable space and turned it into a place not only to rest while visiting loved ones but also a place to meditate on the final steps of Jesus’ life as well as overlooking the cemetery at the beautiful sunrises and sunsets,” as stated by a fellow parishioner. Christopher and Patrick are members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where they serve as altar servers, Eucharistic ministers and are members of the Youth Group. This fall, they will be seniors at United Local High School where they are active in the National Honor Society and marching band.
