County faring poorly on social distancing scorecard

Columbiana County residents aren’t scoring so well on social distancing, according to cell phone data analyzed by the company Unacast.

Unacast has developed a social distancing scorecard which gives daily updated grades for each county in the county on how well its residents are social distancing. It can be accessed at unacast.com.

Columbiana County is at a D-minus right now with change in average mobility down 25 to 40 percent and change in non-essential trips down 55 percent.

An example of a good grade is San Francisco County in California which has been under lockdown. The residents there grade out at A-minus with change in average mobility sitting at 55 to 70 percent and change in non-essential trips down 70 percent.

In Mahoning County the grade is a D with change in mobility down 25 to 40 percent and change in non-essential trips down between 55 and 60 percent. Trumbull County is one of the many counties in Ohio with an F. Change in average mobility there is at 25 percent while change in non-essential trips is at 55 percent.

In West Virginia, Hancock County gets a D-minus with the same metrics as Columbiana County.

Ohio and West Virginia as a whole have grades of D. The United States gets a C overall.
