The meals keep coming for Columbiana students

Columbiana cafeteria staff and school aides pitch in to help make and pack meals for students in the district on Monday.

Many students in the Columbiana school district rely on meals from school. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, schools have closed, which has forced districts to move to remote learning. As kids do their work from home, the schools’ cafeteria staff and aides have pitched in to ensure students still get the meals they count on. Every Monday, over 15 staff members are working together to make and distribute meals from each building to students in the district. The staff has continued to practice social distancing, as Superintendent Don Mook said they are limiting the number of staff members in each area. They are also wearing gloves to prepare and pack the meals. Mook said that 1,300 breakfast meals and 1,300 lunch meals have been prepared for a total of 2,600 meals this week. From noon to 1 p.m., the schools are doing a curbside pickup process until further notice, where meals can be picked up for students from each building. — Scott Lendak
