GOSHEN TWP. — Trustees have approved the renewal of domain names for township websites.

Trustees approved a two-year renewal of the domain names at approximately $300 total for the township, police department and hosting websites which expire in April.

Fiscal Officer Tom Knoedler suggested renewing the domain name for the police department site, which is not utilized, in order to prevent someone else from purchasing it for another purpose, such as pornography, as well as retaining the current staff emails. Trustee Shawn Mesler also noted Police Chief Steve McDaniel said the police department site fulfills state requirements for the department.

In other business, Mesler reported the township remains in contention for a small government funding grant through the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for resurfacing and drainage of Smith Goshen Road between state Route 165 and Middletown Road. He said there was a miscalculation in the funding that led to the belief projects would be cut, but money that was not used in previous years made it possible to provide full funding this year. He said the township’s project remains on the bubble to receive funding.

Mesler said the roadway has an issue with flooding that needs addressed now, although the township cannot make any permanent corrections without affecting the grant application. Instead, trustees granted permission for roads supervisor Matt Springer to make temporary fixes until a permanent correction can be funded.

Trustees also approved a resolution that will allow for the share of the cost of installing driveway culverts on township roads with residents. According to Springer the resident will be responsible for the pipe and backfill. Any qualifying resident may call Springer at the township garage at 330-402-2390 for more information.

Also at the meeting Recycling Coordinator Paul Manypenny reported the township will hold a scrap appliance drive May 9 through 16 with $500 from the Mahoning County Green Team and a tire drive and customer appreciation day Sept. 19 with $1,500 from the Green Team. He also suggested the township hold an electronics drive for community members as in past years, since the Green Team is only offering one drive for the entire county during the month of June at the Canfield Fairgrounds. He noted the electronics drive does not cost the township any money and residents are already used to the township offering the drive during the year.

In related news, Mesler acknowledged Manypenny for responding to early morning complaints a couple weeks ago regarding a mess at the recycling bins in Damascus caused by the wind or overflow. Manypenny responded and cleaned up the mess.

Manypenny said he shared his concern with the Green Team, stating there needs to be a plan in place to report spills and messes providing one number to call instead of someone having to issue a complaint to multiple people to have a problem corrected.

Additionally, Knoedler reported he may have to cash out a CD at Farmers National Bank trustees approved in September because the CD took all the money from the general fund even though trustees intended the money to come from separate funds.

Trustees also purchased fraud protection from the bank for $30 per month. Knoedler said he has to authorize each vendor and any payment outside the norm will be questioned. He said without the fraud protection, any suspicious account activity will have to be recognized within a day in order to prevent the payment.

Trustee John Bricker also responded to rumors, noting Bricker Park is definitely not for sale and the trustees are simply discussing funding for the park.

The next regular trustees meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 9 at the administration building.
