SALEM — High school students at the Columbiana County Educational Service Center (CCESC) are getting the chance to learn new work-related skills through a unique partnership with Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC). “For over the past 20 years, SRMC has partnered with the CCESC to provide their students with volunteer opportunities at the hospital,” explained Amy Reed, SRMC Director of Development. “The experience is designed to help students develop the job skills they will need to transition from school to employment within the community.” SRMC is currently hosting eight students from the CCESC, who volunteer in the hospital’s Print Shop, Food and Nutrition, and Housekeeping departments one morning a week. The students assist with a variety of tasks, from folding linens and putting away dishes to stocking shelves. Reed noted that the program not only benefits the CCESC student volunteers, but the hospital as well. “By helping complete jobs that need to be done, the students are truly making a difference for our staff and patients,” she said. “We are very grateful for their dedication, enthusiasm and service to the hospital.” Those wishing to learn more about SRMC’s partnership with the CCESC can visit the Salem Regional Medical Center Facebook page to watch a brief video about the program. The volunteer program at SRMC has a variety of opportunities for community members looking to meet new people, acquire new skills and make a difference for others.
