Dot Day at Lepper Library
Join the Lepper Library in celebrating International Dot Day Saturday. Make your mark on our Community Canvas, listen to The Dot by Peter Reynolds, make Bubble Art, design your own Dot Bridge, and build your own Dot Tower. The fun starts at 10 a.m.
Alzheimer Networks workshops
The Alzheimer Network will present three Canfield workshops to prepare families to deal with the changes brought by the disease. The first session on September 14 focuses on learning what community services are available to help and on making informed choices. The second session on September 21 profiles the symptoms and behavior changes as well as the medications used to slow the progression. The final session on September 28 guides caregivers in learning to cope with the impact the disease ultimately has on their own lives. The three sessions will be held at the Canfield Library, 43 W. Main St. on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Registration is required even if attending only one session. Call the Alzheimer Network office at 330-788-9755. There is no charge and handouts will be provided.
Pete the Can on the Story Trail
Families with young readers are invited to attend the Story Trail planned from 1 to 4 p,m, Saturday, Sept. 28 on the Nature Trail at Salem’s Waterworth Memorial Park in Salem. Everyone attending should follow the story trail and read the pages of a story about Pete the Cat. Keep your eyes open because you might see Pete in person. Snacks will be available. This fun program is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Registration is not required. Join the fun at this special “Go Wild at the Park” event. Mum sale to aid Alchemy Acres
A fall mum sale benefiting Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday at Dogs on the Run. Those attending can meet Cici and Copper, a bonded pair of pups. The purchase of mums benefits the non-kill animal shelter. Dogs on the Run is located at 15 S. Market St., East Palestine.
Deer processing workshop
The Columbiana County Park District will hold a free deer processing workshop led by professionals from the Ohio Division of Wildlife at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at Scenic Vista Park outside Lisbon. Participants will learn how to field dress, butcher and cook your white-tailed deer. Participants will also learn about the different cuts of meat and have an opportunity to taste the venison that is processed that day. How to can venison, make jerky and smoke deer sausage will be explained as well.
