Threat clears Walmart

SALEM–Walmart was evacuated for over two hours late Tuesday night after officers responded to a possible bomb threat.

Police responded to the East State Street business at 9:02 p.m. after employees reported finding a writing on a stall in the women’s bathroom. The business made the decision to evacuate the store, according to Detective Dave Talbert.

Bomb sniffing dogs from the Canton Police Department and sheriff’s offices of Stark and Summit counties searched the entire store but found nothing suspicious.

The fire department assisted by the Green Township Fire Department also responded to stand by while officers conducted the search.

The business was cleared at 12:16 a.m. Wednesday.

Talbert said the matter is under investigation.
