Resource officer, Rocco will return to United
HANOVERTON–The United Local school board this week approved an agreement to continue with a school resource officer for the 2019-2020 school year.
The board approved an agreement with the county sheriff’s office for a full-time school resource officer at $70,000, which is no increase from last year. Deputy Wes Smith will continue as school resource officer.
In other business, the board approved the continued use of canine therapy dog Rocco with the direction of Samantha Muniz, high school guidance counselor, for the 2019-2020 school year and renewed the United Head Start preschool, sponsored by the county Community Action Agency, rental agreement for a classroom in the Brautigam Center.
The board also approved a contract with Remind 101 Inc. for a plan with advanced messaging, voice calls and urgent message throughout the district for a period of 36 months at a cost of $10,215 and Zinkan Enterprises Inc. at $2,496 annually for services and products to ensure proper treatment of water treatment systems.
Under personnel, the board granted supplemental contracts to McKenzie Firth for eighth-grade volleyball, Kali Carlariello for junior varsity fall cheerleading, Sean Weyant for freshman football, Tammy Daggy for junior varsity volleyball, Shawn Hicklin for high school SAP coordinator and Matthew Mowery for newspaper advisor; and approved as volunteer coaches Rob Hovorka for varsity girls tennis and Rachel Amos for assistant girls soccer.
The board also approved Kimberly Barth, Salem, as a part-time intervention tutor at the Louis Tobin Attention Center and accepted the retirement of Brenda Miller as bus driver effective Sept. 1 and resignation of Kelly Hartsough as cook effective Aug. 16.
Also at the meeting the board approved as chartered trips seniors to Cedar Point, eighth-grade to Washington D.C., prom, band to Kalahari and choir to New York City; and accepted donations of $500 from Odyssey Fitness to the football program, $43.75 from the Medure family to the Backpack Program and $250.10 from Donors Choose to Kelly DeVille for flexible seating in her classroom.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the high school library.
