Man found dead, next of kin sought
SALEM TOWNSHIP — Officials are seeking the next of kin of an elderly recluse found dead outside his state Route 558 home this week.
Salem Township Constable Dan Valentine said Thursday officials are asking for any next of kin to step forward for John Edward Moore, 76, 39633 state Route 558, Leetonia, who was found dead outside his home during a welfare check on Tuesday. Valentine said due to the decomposition of the body, the coroner’s office could not make a positive identification on Moore and officials are looking for anyone who might be able to help provide that positive identification.
Valentine said he responded to Moore’s home after the post office and neighbors said they had not seen him in a week. He said he found Moore’s body which appeared to have been deceased for approximately 11 days, and although the cause of death is believed to be natural, it is under investigation due to the location and condition of the body.
Valentine described Moore as a recluse about whom his ex-wife provided little information. His ex-wife said he was currently married, but the marriage could not be confirmed, and Moore is believed to have other relatives out of the area, but that is unknown at this time, Valentine said.
The coroner’s office, sheriff’s office and Leetonia firefighters assisted on the incident.
Any next of kin or anyone with information should call Valentine at 330-427-0808.
