WINONA — The Winona Ruritan Club held its annual steak fry and chicken breast dinner for members and invited guests at the Salem Saxon Club on June 25. Elmer Lee Stamp called the meeting to order and everyone rose to sing “America.” Greg Coffee gave the invocation.
Stamp thanked Buster Rogowsky, John Gamble and John Heinbuck for barbecuing the steaks an chicken breasts and also thanked the Giant Eagle deli department for catering the sides and desserts. Members served themselves buffet style from both sides of the food table.
After the meal was enjoyed by all, the club dispensed with the monthly secretary and treasurer reports. Stamp asked that each member introduce their guest when their name was called. There were 19 members and 33 guests in attendance. No members had a birthday in June. Congratulations were given to Homer and Gerri Hoprich celebrating 55 years of marriage and Bruce and Ruth Marhefka for celebrating 52 years of marriage in June.
Due to the community support of the club’s semi-annual pancake and sausage breakfast, homemade scrapple and gun raffle, the club was able to award five college scholarships to the following students: Frankie Heffinger, granddaughter of Jerry Brown; Micheal Marhefka, grandson of Bruce Marhefka; Casey Donaldson, daughter of Rob Donaldson; and Megan and Morgan Stamp, twin granddaughters of Elmer Lee Stamp.
Entertainment was provided by one of last year’s scholarship recipients, Teresa Marhefka, who sang a few of her favorite songs.
Following adjournment, everyone rose and pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
