South Range board ups lunch prices slightly

BEAVER TOWNSHIP — The South Range school board Monday approved slight increases to student lunch prices.

The board increased lunch prices by 10 cents for grades kindergarten through four and five through 12. The new lunch costs are $2.85 for grades kindergarten through four and $2.95 for grades five through 12.

Prices for reduced lunch, breakfast, reduced breakfast, milk and adult lunch remain the same.

The increases are per federal guidelines. Schools Superintendent Dennis Dunham said the administration decided a few years ago to increase the prices in small increments over a number of years instead of all at once.

The board also granted permission for the high school cross country team to attend a team camp Aug. 12 to 14 at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The team camp will be chaperoned by approved coaches and transportation provided by South Range Local Schools.

Under personnel, the board approved a memorandum of understanding with the South Range Classified Employees Association creating the position of transportation lead maintenance as a pilot program through June 30, 2020. The position will be filled by a current transportation employee under the supervision of the transportation director.

The position will be paid $20 per hour and work primarily in performing, monitoring, assigning and scheduling of transportation employees to perform bus maintenance duties/repairs as necessary throughout the school year.

The board also approved Jim Richley as high school marching band percussionist instructor through Aug. 16, Frank Dispenza as an interim assistant high school band director for the 2019-2020 school year at a rate of $2,828.24 and Paul Cubick as a transportation consultant for the 2019-2020 school year at a rate of $20 per hour; and granted one-year part-time classified aide contracts for the 2019-2020 school year to Colleen Kersten, Ranniea Amer and Michelle Esposito.

The board also granted supplemental coaching contracts for the 2019-2020 school year to Brian Crumbacher for middle school football and Tyler Bradley and Jeff Remish for middle school football assistants.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 19 in the high school auditorium.
