Mile Branch Grange members prepare for 63rd annual fair

KNOX TOWNSHIP — The Mile Branch Grange Community Fair returns this weekend, and this year it will be easier for families to attend.

The 63rd annual fair will be held Friday and Saturday at the fairgrounds located at 495 Knox School Road, Alliance, half a mile south of U.S. Route 62.

Admission is $8 for everyone 6 years and older. This year, however, cost will be $15 per vehicle arriving between 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

“We’re trying to encourage people to come to the kids games and activities on Saturday,” explained Diana Nordquest, grange secretary and fair board member. “With the special price, hopefully we can help families that want to come out during that time.”

Saturday’s activities include kids day beginning at 3 p.m. Games will vary by age groups and include ball push, balloon stomp, candy scramble, ring toss, sack race, spoon race and water balloon toss. Other activities of interest to children include Raptor Hollow, featuring hawks, owls, reptiles, parrots and small mammals, from 3 to 7 p.m.; farm animal display from 3 to 9 p.m.; a petting zoo from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and the annual baby contest at 4 p.m.

Friday’s schedule includes Raptor Hollow from 5 to 7 p.m.; a farm animal display from 5 to 9 p.m.; a pedal tractor pull at 6:30 p.m. and tractor pull at 7 p.m.

Additional Saturday activities include car, truck and tractor show from 4 to 7 p.m.; pedal tractor pull at 5 p.m.; corn hole tournament at 5:30 p.m.; and tractor pull at 7 p.m.

The fair also features 4-H and other club exhibits plus food and craft exhibits submitted by the public and community members in the commercial building. Items for exhibit must be presented at the time of entry from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday or 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. Categories include flowers, baking and cooking, vegetables and fruits, canned goods, photography, sewing and art in adult and junior (15 years and younger) divisions. Friday’s pull will include 7700# Classic Super Stock Tractor-sanctioned, 8500# Open 2.5 Diesel 4–4 Truck, 6400# Work Gas 4×4 Truck, 6500# Hot Rod V-8 tractors-sanctioned, 7000# Unlimited Open Farm and Heavy 4×4 tractor-no weight limit. Saturday’s pull will include

7500 Farm Stock-Non Turbo, 8500 Farm Stock-Non Turbo, 10,500 Farm Stock Turbo, 13,500 Farm Stock Turbo and Street Truck Gas & Diesel 8000 Plated and Insured on Track One; and 1/4 Scale Garden Tractor 5K 1050 Twins and 1/4 Scale Garden Tractor 1050 Open on Track Two. Nordquest encouraged community members to attend the fair, which offers a chance to interact with their neighbors and friends.

“The fair provides an opportunity for people of the community to see each other and renew friendships while making new memories,” she said.
