Goshen considers roads for chip and seal

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP – Township trustees are considering possible roads to chip and seal with township funds this summer.

Trustees authorized Road Supervisor Matt Springer to get prices for stone and slag for chip and seal of two stretches of road – Seacrist Road between Pine Lake and Garfield roads and Pine Lake between Duck Creek Road and the Perry Township limit – after Springer suggested the two roadways when asked by trustees about chip and sealing this summer. Springer said the stretch of Seacrist Road has not been resurfaced for several years and the stretch of Pine Lake Road will complete the section between Duck Creek and Goshen roads after Perry Township trustees completed their section last year.

The trustees are also considering a more extensive chip and seal project that would be funded through a grant if approved.

Also at the meeting, Spring reported the road department received 305 tons of grindings from the Ohio Department of Transportation for free. Trustee Rob Spencer suggested renting a vibratory roller to lay out the grindings on the roadways to perform a better job since the township received the grindings to repair the roads for free.

In other business, the trustees approved a resolution for participation in the Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation for township employees who wish to use the retirement plan managed by the state of Ohio. The trustees also accepted the resignation of police officer Zach Scott and hired Steve Stanton of Minerva as a part-time police officer.

Additionally trustee Teresa Stratton reported the bid for road salt for the 2019-2020 winter season is $72.23 per ton. The trustees last month ordered 150 tons for Goshen Township and 75 tons for Berlin Township, for a total of 225 tons. Goshen Township stores the salt for Berlin Township.

The township’s scrap appliance and metal drive is currently under way during daylight hours through 18 at the township garage and recycling center, 12649 Seacrist Road.

The collection is open to everyone.

The recycling department will accept air conditioners, barbecue grills, bicycles, brake parts, fencing, freezers, humidifiers, microwave ovens, refrigerators, space heaters, washers/dryers, water coolers, wheel rims, wire clothes hangers, metal toys and any other scrap metal. Televisions, electronics, furniture and tires will not be accepted.?For information contact 330-205-4204.

The next regular trustees meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 10 at the administration building.
