EL man struck by ATV
EAST LIVERPOOL — An unidentified 18-year-old man was injured after he was struck in the street by an ATV in a hit and run accident on Saturday.
According to East Liverpool Police Patrolman Jesse Smith, video surveillance of the scene showed the 18-year-old was standing in the street taunting the oncoming traffic, when two ATV’s came eastbound down West Ninth Street at about 7:30 p.m.
The first ATV swerved and missed, but the second ATV struck the man, dragging him about 25 feet. The ATV then flipped throwing the unnamed adult driver and the 15-year-old riding with him.
Neither were wearing helmets, but recovered enough to upright the ATV and drive away. A helicopter was summoned to the cloverleaf for the man injured in the street. However Smith said the man was responsive and declined to be flown by helicopter. He was instead transported to East Liverpool City Hospital.
Police identified the driver of the first ATV, Charles Gough and went to a Vine Street home where he was located. Gough was charged with driving under suspension and operating an ATV on a public road.
Both ATVs were found in the garage at the home where Gough was found.
Smith said police have spoken on the phone with the other driver, but are waiting for him to come to the police station to give a statement. Possible charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
