Amnesty Initiative workshops

LISBON — Columbiana County Municipal Court Judges Mark Frost and Tim McNicol have scheduled additional workshops for individuals with suspended driver’s licenses to obtain assistance with reinstatement and possible reduction and/or waiver of reinstatement fees. Ohio BMV Regional Representative/Court Liaison Darlene Jones will be available to speak with individuals on a one-on-one basis on Wednesday, May 22 and also on Wednesday, June 19 to discuss their current license status.

With the BMV’s Amnesty Initiative currently in effect until July 31, individuals who currently owe hundreds or even thousands of dollars in reinstatement fees may be eligible to have those fees waived or significantly reduced. At the last workshop held in March, Jones was able to assist each attendee in saving an average of $500 in fees.

Both Judge Frost and McNicol have been regularly advising persons appearing before them who are charged with driver’s license offenses to take advantage of this unique program, noting that driving under Suspension and other license infractions are some of the most common offenses seen in their court.

“We want people to become valid and legal as soon as possible, and this program has proven to be most effective in accomplishing that goal,” stated Judge McNicol.

Persons interested in attending either workshop are encouraged to sign up in advance, however walk-ins will be accepted. The court is located at 38832 Saltwell Road in Lisbon.

Information and applications for the Amnesty Initiative are also available online at www.bmv.ohio.gov. Anyone with questions regarding the workshop may contact Cindy Souder, Probation Department Assistant, at 424-5326, Ext. 1623.
