Man arrested following chase

PERRY TWP. — A man caught by police after allegedly ditching a stolen vehicle and fleeing on foot Monday afternoon was already wanted on active felony warrants in the city of Canton and Lorain County, according to a township police report.

Kevin Wasmire, 46, of Alliance, was taken into custody on the warrants when police found him walking on Depot Road at Snyder Road during a search of the area. Perry Township Police Chief Mike Emigh said the warrant from Lorain County was for drug possession and the one from Canton was for receiving stolen property. He was taken to the Columbiana County jail.

Charges remained pending in Perry Township related to the incident with the vehicle, which Emigh said was reported stolen from Canton in the past week. The vehicle was described as a blue Dodge Ram pickup. An officer attempted to stop the truck on West Pidgeon Road at 12:55 p.m. after running the vehicle registration and learning it was a stolen vehicle. The officer tried to stop the vehicle as it fled east on the bypass and turned behind Homestead Pools. The officer tried to cut the vehicle off from coming back out from behind Homestead Pools and onto the bypass but found the vehicle abandoned behind the business with no driver present.

That’s when the search was conducted and a person found walking on Depot Road was identified as Wasmire and detained. Salem Police and the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search.
