United accepts donations for backpack program

HANOVERTON–The United school board this week accepted a number of donations in memoriam to the school’s backpack program.

The board accepted $275 from various community members in memory of former bus driver Diana Strudthoff for the backpack program, which provides meals for students to take home for the weekend. The board also accepted an anonymous $75 donation in memory of alumna Joscelin Ellyson to the same program.

Additionally the board accepted donations of $766.45 from student collections for Pennies for Patients to Ruriteens, $250 from Victor Stoffer (Hawkins Insurance) to the football T-shirt fundraiser, $350 from Jerry Phillis (Brighton Hot Dog Shoppe) to the football T-shirt fundraiser, $35.75 through the vitality soup challenge for the backpack program and an $894 grant received by Mrs. DeVille from the Tuscarawas Valley Heritage Inc. to cover the cost for the fifth-grade field trip to Historic Zoar Village.

Also at the meeting, the board granted supplemental coaching contracts to Hayden Wilson for assistant freshman baseball and Erin Briceland for assistant softball; and approved Aimee Marshall of Hanoverton and Mary Cody of Canton as volunteers to work at various tasks throughout the school.

The board also approved the College Credit Plus Master Agreement with Youngstown State University for the 2019-2020 school year

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 17 in the high school library.
