Potential juror allegedly drunk

EAST LIVERPOOL — An officer was called to East Liverpool Municipal Court at 9:15 a.m. Thursday for a man who reported to jury duty who appeared to be intoxicated. He spoke with potential juror Vernon D. Mitchell, 46, Avondale Street, saying he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and that Mitchell had glassy, bloodshot eyes and a slow gait. Mitchell reportedly told the officer he had drank alcohol the previous night and had walked to court that morning. He was taken before Judge Melissa Byers Emmerling, who released Mitchell from jury duty. Mitchell was taken to the police station and given a breathalyzer, where he tested at .146. He was charged with intoxication and transported to his home and released to his sober girlfriend, according to reports.
