Man facing three felonies following chase in Lisbon

Aaron M. Holt

LISBON — The East Liverpool man who fled Saturday from Lisbon police, Aaron M. Holt, appeared by video for arraignment Monday morning in county Municipal Court before Judge Timothy McNicol.

Holt, 41, Blakely Street, East Liverpool, is facing three felony charges of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; assault on a peace officer, a fourth-degree felony; and obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony. A preliminary hearing was scheduled on Thursday for Holt.

Additionally, McNicol scheduled an extradition hearing on Thursday for Holt. Court paperwork states Holt fled from justice in New York and has a warrant in Arizona which plans full extradition for an unknown offense. McNicol explained to Holt the extradition hearing will not determine if he is innocent or guilty of whatever he is accused of in Arizona, only that he is or is not the Aaron M. Holt they are looking for.

Finally, Blakely is facing misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and a pretrial was scheduled for Thursday on those charges.

All of the local charges stem from Holt’s alleged actions when Lisbon police stopped the black Chevrolet Impala he was driving Saturday night and he allegedly kicked and shoved a police officer before he fled for the Middle Fork of the Little Beaver Creek. Sgt. Jon Kerchofer reported he saw a bag with suspected narcotics on the seat, which was described in court documents on Monday as a white and brown powdery substance.

Holt disappeared following a splash heard in the creek and was eventually located following an extensive search of the area, which included police from Lisbon, the county sheriff’s office, the highway patrol and the Salem K-9 unit. Kerchofer said Holt later admitted to throwing the bag of drugs into the creek to avoid charges for the contents, which resulted the most serious charge of tampering with evidence. The tampering charge carries a maximum sentence of 36 months in prison and a $10,000 fine.

McNicol set Holt’s bond at $100,000 cash or surety and he remains in custody at the county jail.
