Palestine teen pleads guilty to unlawful sexual conduct

LISBON — A 19-year-old East Palestine man who had a continuing sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl pleaded guilty on Friday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony.

Nathaniel W. Black, North Market Street, could face up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine. Chief Assistant County Prosecutor John Gamble said at the time of sentencing he will recommend a nine-month prison term.

Black would also be required to register as a Tier II sexual offender, which will require him to register his address every six months for no less than 25 years.

Black reportedly invited the girl to his apartment in March and April 2018 to engage in sexual conduct with him even after being warned to cease his relationship with the teenager. The charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor makes it illegal for anyone 18 and older to knowingly have sex with a person at least 13 years old, but under the age of 16.

Judge Scott Washam asked for a presentencing investigation to be conducted before the sentencing of Black on Feb. 15. As part of it he asked for him to be evaluated for potential sex offender treatment through the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center.
