Crestview board again offers its support to Fine Arts Academy
COLUMBIANA — County students will likely get another opportunity to hone their artistic and acting skills at the Fine Arts Academy next summer.
The academy is hosted by the Columbiana County Educational Service Center and held at the Crestview Local School District. It has generally been funded through a grant from the Columbiana Community Foundation.
This week Kimberly Mayer, who oversees the academy for the ESC, asked the Crestview Board of Education for their support to begin seeking funding for next year’s program.
“This is our sixth year using the Fine Arts Academy, and we have seen an increase in participation. About 75 students participated from schools all over the county,” she told the board.
The academy is offered to county students in third through eighth grades. Students participating in the four-day program have the opportunity to learn dance, theater, vocal music, instrumental music, and art, and on the final day they are asked to put on a program.
“It’s amazing what students can do with just four days of instruction. They put on a great program,” Mayer said.
The board approved Mayer’s request for support.
In other business, the board also approved:
— A supplemental contract for Erica Guerrier as detention monitor.
— A supplemental contract for Jamie Meredith to provide achievement test intervention at the middle school under the Teach Each Child program.
— A pupil activity contract for Courtney Patterson, high school varsity assistant girls basketball coach.
