Social Concern collecting food

The East Palestine Social Concern will be taking the Harvest Sunday food collections Oct. 28 and Nov. 4. Donations can also be left at the East Palestine Library, Covington Nursing Home and Sparkle Market during October and November. Sign-ups for Thanksgiving assistance will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 29 and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 for Christmas assistance at the Centenary Methodist Church. Assistance is for the residents of East Palestine School District and proof of residency is required.

Halloween at Whispering Pines

Whispering Pines Village, East Park Avenue, in Columbiana will hold a trick or treat night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25. Children are invited to enjoy Halloween with indoor trick or treating followed by apple cider and doughnuts. Organizers promise plenty of treats for adults.

New Garden church sets sale

The New Garden United Methodist Church will host the annual fall rummage sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 and from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 and 20 at the church. There will be a bake sale and lunch everyday during the sale as well as $4 bag day on both Saturdays. Donations of salable items are welcome by calling 330-853-0737 or 222-1171.

Masquerade Ball aids Brightside

Nonprofit organization The Brightside Project will host the second annual Masquerade Ball at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Salem Golf Club. The event will include wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres, a mask judging contest, silent and Chinese auctions and entertainment. Some of the items to be auctioned during the silent auction are an overnight stay and breakfast for two at the Spread Eagle Tavern, admission passes to the Oh Wow! Children’s Museum, Pymatuning Deer Park, Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museums, Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad tickets and an assortment of gift cards to local restaurants. Tickets for the event are $40 each or $300 for tables of eight and reserved at Fairway Mortgage or Hofmeister Realty or online at www.brightsideprojectohio.org.

North Lima church plans auction

The North Lima Mennonite Church will have an auction at 6 p.m. Oct. 24. A wide variety of items will be auctioned including gift certificates, produce, baked goods and merchandise. Cash or checks will be accepted. A food stand will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m. For more information call the church at 549-2333.

Bus heading to the Big Apple

The Wellsville High School yearbook staff will sponsor a red-eye chartered bus trip Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 to New York City. The cost is $95 with a $50 deposit required to reserve a seat. For more information call the high school at 532-1188. All payments must be received by Nov. 9.
