Boat club copes

Morning Journal/Jo Ann Bobby-Gilbert

While the Ohio River crested at just over the flood stage of 14 feet Monday, that was high enough to nearly cover the pavilion at the East Liverpool Boat Club on River Road. The road had been closed to traffic due to the threat of flooding but was reopened about 11 a.m. Tuesday after the river began to recede. Club members had removed the furnace, refrigerator and freezer from the pavilion before the water rose, storing the appliances on shore in a trailer and plugged in to a nearby electric pole. They also had removed most boats from the river so none were washed away.
