Carroll County Fair opens Tuesday, Messina headlines
CARROLLTON — The 168th annual Carroll County Fair will kick off Tuesday.
The fair is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 17-22 at the fairgrounds. The gate prices each day are $10 and include rides and grandstands.
According to fair board members, county music artist Jo Dee Messina is headlining this year’s fair. Messina, with hits such as “My Give a Damn’s Busted,” “Bring on the Rain,” and “Heads Carolina, Tails California” will perform at 7 p.m. on July 21. The cost of tickets to see Messina is $10 in addition to fair admission costs.
“Saturday, our big highlight is the Jo Dee Messina concert,” said board secretary Wendy Davis. “It’s a big honor to bring a country music concert back to the fair.”
The fair’s schedule is as follows:
¯ Tuesday: Dairy show, poultry show, cowboy and cowgirl presentation, market hog show, harness racing, colt racing and fair royalty presentation.
¯ Wednesday: Dog, goat and sheep shows, still project auction, pedal pull, breeding sheep show and the AMA Flat Track motorcycle racing.
¯ Thursday: Rabbit show, beef breeding show, English and Western horse classes, dairy beef feeder show, beef showmanship and market steer show and the OSTPA tractor and truck pull.
¯ Friday: Super showmanship, performance horse classics, large animal sale, pee-wee showmanship, small animal dress-up contest and full pull productions.
¯ Saturday: Horse contesting classes, small animal sale and square dance.
¯ Sunday: Mod rod puller, dairy cow dress up, awards ceremony, combine derby and derby dog demolition derby.
