Court News

LISBON — Mark D. Knight, 21, Youngstown, pleaded guilty in Common Pleas Court to burglary, a second-degree felony. Sentencing is set for March 26, when he faces up to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine. On Aug. 27, 2018, Knight broke into the home of Kathy Laughlin and Michael Beverly on state Route 164, Lisbon.

John Peter Elia, 58, West Bloomfield, Mich., was sentenced to 60 days in jail for trafficking in marijuana and possession of marijuana, both third-degree felonies. He will then be on community control for three years. On Dec. 16, 2019, Elia had more than 5,000 grams, but less than 20,000 grams of marijuana ready for sale. The drugs were found during a traffic stop on state Route 11 by the highway patrol.

Municipal

LISBON — A Jan. 25 preliminary hearing was set in county Municipal Court for Mark E. Coleman, 53, Y and O Road, East Liverpool, charged with improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle for allegedly having a Ruger LCP .380 handgun, a box of rounds, a loaded magazine and a loose round in his vehicle on Jan. 16, during a traffic stop on U.S. Route 30 in Madison Township, when several suspected drugs also were located.

A Jan. 25 preliminary hearing and pretrial was set for Kerry Lynn Appel, 48, Fife Coal Road, Wellsville, charged with improper handling of firearms in a vehicle, OVI, no license and left of center. She allegedly had a loaded .380 handgun inside her purse.

A Jan. 28 preliminary hearing was set for Leeana Denise Bermudez Shaulis, 22, East Martin Street, East Palestine, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for allegedly borrowing a 2015 Acura from Paul Hartman on Dec. 9 and not returning it. The vehicle was recovered by authorities in Youngstown.

A March 4 pretrial was set for Jesus Juan Gonzalez, 36, Union Street, Columbiana, charged with OVI third offense, OVI refusal with prior within 20 years, speeding and left of center.

Street racing citations were dismissed against Herbert H. Beehler, 72, West Pine Lake Road, Salem. One of the citations was issued last April and the other last June.

A citation of violating chapter, rules or board orders was dismissed against Stephanie Lautzenheiser, 49, state Route 9, Kensington. The citation involved failing to connect a property in Kensington to the sewer system.
